A second ballistic missile struck Arad, about 30 kilometers from the nuclear research center, injuring nearly 70 people, 10 of them seriously, and damaging at least 10 apartment buildings, three of which were destroyed. The military said interceptors engaged both the Dimona and Arad missiles but failed to bring them down.

Why it matters

Nearly 200 people were hurt in the two southern strikes, and back-to-back interception failures near Israel's most sensitive site prompted a military investigation.
