The Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga ministry said six Iranian ballistic missiles fired in two strikes hit the Area Command One headquarters in Soran, Erbil province, before dawn, killing six soldiers and wounding 30. Regional President Nechirvan Barzani called it "direct hostile aggression" against Iraq's sovereignty.

Why it matters

It was the first recent attack Kurdish authorities blamed directly on Tehran, pulling Iraq's autonomous region further into the war.
