Iraq's Electricity Ministry said the national grid was "completely shut down across all Iraqi provinces" after a sudden drop in gas supplies to a key power plant, AFP reported. Iraq's Oil Ministry also halted production at a major field near Basra, citing a shortage of tankers in the Gulf, AP reported.
Why it matters
The blackout showed how the Gulf shipping freeze and disrupted gas flows were spilling into Iraq's own economy, not just world oil prices.
