Israel orders all civilians in southern Lebanon to move north of the Litani River

Israeli army Arabic spokesman Col. Avichay Adraee told residents of southern Lebanon to evacuate their homes immediately and head north of the Litani River, warning that movement southward could put their lives at risk. The order widened Tuesday's evacuation call for more than 80 communities.

Why it matters

UNICEF said nearly 60,000 people, including 18,000 children, were displaced in Lebanon within 24 hours; the last order this sweeping came during Israel's October 2024 ground offensive.
