A missile struck a helipad inside the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad's Green Zone, two Iraqi security officials said, and video obtained by AP showed smoke rising from the compound; the embassy did not immediately comment. It had renewed its Level 4 security alert a day earlier, warning of attacks by Iran and aligned militias.

Why it matters

Late Saturday the embassy told U.S. citizens to leave Iraq immediately, citing indiscriminate militia attacks, and warned them not to come to the embassy or the Erbil consulate.
