Acting Pentagon comptroller Jules Hurst told the House Armed Services Committee, at Hegseth's first hearing since the war began, that the conflict had cost about $25 billion, mostly for munitions, with a supplemental request to follow. CBS later reported that US officials put the true cost closer to $50 billion once damaged equipment and bases are counted.

Why it matters

It was the first official price tag for the war, and Congress would have to fund any supplemental request.
