Russia has provided Iran with information that could help it strike American warships, aircraft and other assets in the region, two officials familiar with U.S. intelligence told AP. They said the intelligence has not shown Russia directing what Iran does with it.

Why it matters

It was the first indication that Moscow was seeking a role in the war, raising the stakes for U.S. forces already hit by Iranian drones and missiles.
