Satellite images reviewed by AP showed a slick of about 27 square miles spreading from the west side of Kharg Island, with Windward estimating about 80,000 barrels spilled since it was first detected on Tuesday; the cause was unknown. Iran's Oil Terminals Company denied any leak on Sunday.
Why it matters
A spill at Kharg, which handles most of Iran's crude exports, could reach Gulf coastlines if it spreads.
