Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces captured the towns of Bab and Hadeid during their advance along Yemen's Red Sea coast, according to officials cited by France 24. The advance pushed Houthi forces out of much of the coastal area they seized last month.
Why it matters
The towns lie near the Bab al-Mandab shipping chokepoint, where control of the surrounding coast affects threats to Red Sea oil and cargo traffic.
