State Department launches 'Maritime Freedom Construct' to reopen Hormuz

The State Department asked partners to join a Washington-based initiative to coordinate diplomatic and economic steps, and to identify safe corridors for ships through the Strait of Hormuz, first reported by the Wall Street Journal. Officials said it would not replace a separate French-British effort.
Why it matters
It was the first US attempt to line up other governments behind reopening the strait.
