The US Embassy in Beirut called for direct engagement between Lebanon and Israel, including a Trump-facilitated meeting between President Aoun and Prime Minister Netanyahu, saying it could secure US-guaranteed sovereignty, secure borders and reconstruction aid. Aoun said on May 4 that the timing was not right and that Israeli attacks must stop first.
