The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency reported that multiple projectiles struck a tanker 51 nautical miles north of Madinat al-Shamal, Qatar, and that casualties were reported. Maritime intelligence firm Vanguard identified the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged oil and chemical tanker as Acers.
Why it matters
The reported strike extends a pattern of attacks on merchant shipping deep into the Gulf, affecting vessels approaching the Strait of Hormuz and potentially further constraining tanker movements.
