The Guardian reported that the White House asked the Pentagon to prepare options for strikes against Iran before the U.S. midterm elections. The report said administration officials were still debating targets, scale and whether to proceed.
Why it matters
Any U.S. strike decision could expand direct U.S.-Iran hostilities and further disrupt Gulf oil and shipping routes.
