Tanker Kaifan hit off Oman's Limah as its crew takes to a lifeboat; IRGC claims attack

UKMTO said a tanker was struck by an unknown projectile about 8 nautical miles northeast of Limah, Oman, and that its crew abandoned the vessel into a lifeboat; the IMO later identified it as the Kaifan and recorded two seafarers injured. Iran's Revolutionary Guards said 'massive fires' broke out on two oil tankers that tried to use the southern route and warned that not a drop of oil would leave the region while U.S. attacks continued.

Why it matters

It was the second night in a row that a crew abandoned a ship on the Omani-side lane the U.S. has urged vessels to use instead of Iran's northern route.
