UN peacekeepers wounded as fire hits UNIFIL positions in southern Lebanon

UNIFIL said three peacekeepers were wounded when heavy fire struck its base in the village of Al-Qawzah on Friday evening, calling it "unacceptable" that peacekeepers were targeted. Ghana's army separately said two of its soldiers were wounded when missiles struck its UNIFIL battalion headquarters; neither statement named who fired.

Why it matters

UNIFIL said it would investigate; an AP report the previous month had described a surge in incidents involving Israeli forces near peacekeepers in southern Lebanon.
