CENTCOM said the Gambia-flagged Lian Star ignored more than 20 warnings while heading for an Iranian port on the Gulf of Oman, and a U.S. aircraft disabled it with a Hellfire missile into its engine room. It said five commercial vessels had now been disabled and 116 redirected under the blockade; a U.S. official told AP the ship was left adrift and not boarded.

Why it matters

Trump had written a day earlier that the blockade "will now be lifted", yet enforcement continued.
