U.S. diesel tops $5 a gallon for the first time since 2022 as the war squeezes supply

AAA data showed U.S. diesel averaging $5.04 a gallon, up from $4.78 a week earlier and $3.65 a month before, the highest since December 2022. Regular gasoline averaged $3.79 later Tuesday, up from $2.98 before the war and the highest since October 2023.
Why it matters
Diesel drives freight and farm costs, carrying the Gulf supply shock into U.S. prices; the next day Trump waived the Jones Act for 60 days to ease fuel shipping.
