U.S. disables tanker Marivex off Oman; its 24 Indian crew are evacuated safely

CENTCOM said a U.S. fighter fired a precision missile into the engineering and steering spaces of the empty tanker Marivex, which was heading to Iran and whose crew had ignored U.S. directions, bringing the blockade's total to seven disabled vessels and 134 redirected. UKMTO said a fire forced the crew to evacuate off Oman, and India's shipping directorate said all 24 Indian sailors aboard were safe.

Why it matters

Two days later a U.S. strike on another tanker, the Settebello, left three Indian seafarers missing and led India to summon a U.S. diplomat.
