A U.S. KC-135 refueling aircraft supporting operations against Iran went down in western Iraq after an incident involving a second KC-135, which landed safely, Central Command said, adding that the loss was not due to hostile or friendly fire. Rescue efforts were underway and the crew's status was unknown that night; an Iraqi intelligence source told CBS News the plane went down near Turaibil on the Jordanian border.

Why it matters

Any crew deaths would add to seven U.S. troops already killed in the war, and it was the fourth U.S. military aircraft publicly acknowledged lost since Feb. 28, according to AP.
