US strikes three Iranian oil tankers after IRGC fires missiles at US warships

U.S. Central Command said a U.S. aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer evaded Iranian ballistic missiles, after which U.S. forces disabled the tankers Downy off Kharg Island and Stark 1 near Jask and destroyed the unladen Kylo in the Gulf of Oman, which later sank. No U.S. personnel were hurt, and Iranian media reported no casualties on the tanker hit near Kharg.
Why it matters
The response extends U.S. targeting from Iranian military sites to Iran's oil fleet, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Washington will keep destroying tankers if Iran fires on U.S. ships.
