Fighting between Yemen's Saudi-backed government forces and the Houthis killed more than 60 people on Sept. 5, including 26 government troops and 31 Houthi fighters, AFP reported citing military and medical sources. A missile strike on a bus travelling from Taiz to Aden killed six civilians; a government official blamed the Houthis.
Why it matters
The Houthi offensive aims to cut off the government-held port of Mokha and advance toward areas bordering the Bab al-Mandab strait, a chokepoint that has gained importance as a transit route.
