An airstrike on Wednesday morning appears to have struck inside the former U.S. Embassy compound on Tehran's Taleghani Street, which the Revolutionary Guard has controlled since the 1979 hostage crisis, AP reported; witnesses saw blown-out windows around the compound but no visible impact outside it.

Why it matters

The compound is run by the Guard's Basij force, which operates an anti-American museum and other operations in newer buildings there, so the strike hit both a security-force site and the symbol of the hostage crisis.
