Saudi Arabia's Defense Ministry said two drones struck the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, causing a small fire and limited damage. The embassy told Americans in Riyadh, Dhahran and Jeddah to shelter in place and closed for the day.
Why it matters
Iran was now hitting U.S. diplomatic posts as well as bases; the attack followed one on the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait, and Washington ordered non-emergency staff out of Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, Qatar, Jordan and the UAE.
