In a March 2 letter to Senate President Pro Tempore Chuck Grassley, President Trump reported the Feb. 28 strikes on Iran under the War Powers Resolution, saying the threat had become "untenable" and that no U.S. ground forces were used. He wrote that it was "not possible at this time to know the full scope and duration" of the operations.
Why it matters
The letter is the formal report the War Powers Resolution requires, and it preceded Senate and House votes that week on whether to halt the campaign without congressional approval.
