Lebanon's Health Ministry said Israeli attacks since fighting erupted on March 2 had killed 1,001 people, including 118 children, 79 women and 40 health workers, and wounded 2,584, up from 968 dead a day earlier.

Why it matters

The toll passed 1,000 in under three weeks as Israel widened its offensive, and AP reported the next day that evacuation orders had displaced more than 1 million people in Lebanon.
