Trump wrote on Truth Social that Iran's "New Regime President" had asked for a ceasefire and that he would consider it only when the Strait of Hormuz is "open, free, and clear," adding that until then "we are blasting Iran into oblivion." Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei called the claim "false and baseless," Araghchi said Iran had made no ceasefire proposal, and the IRGC said the strait stayed under its control.
Why it matters
The exchange set Trump's condition of reopening Hormuz before any truce against Tehran's stated terms of ending the war only with compensation.
