The UN refugee agency said more than 667,000 people had registered on Lebanon's displacement platform in a week, with the number rising by over 100,000 in a single day, and that Syria reported more than 78,000 Syrians crossing back from Lebanon. France called an emergency Security Council meeting on Lebanon for the next day.
Why it matters
The flight, driven by Israeli evacuation orders across southern Lebanon and Beirut's southern suburbs, was straining a cash-strapped Lebanese government that AP reported was struggling to accommodate them.
